In his depression he wondered if it would be better to go to jail where at least he would be assured of regular meals, a bed and a roof over his head.

Heartbreaking and Heartwarming

It's stories, not cold facts and figures, that catch our hearts. Marilynne's story reveals so many issues, so many ways our culture is broken. But the story of perseverance, of active compassion, of love, of inclusion is inspiring. The story of homeless teens is heartbreaking, but the story of Streetwise, his perseverance, his desire to change his life's trajectory is heart warming. I highly recommend this.

Saved from the streets

This is a true story of two people saving a young homeless man who was living on the streets of Portland, Oregon. I highly recommend this wonderful short story. There is hope for the homeless. Mrs. Eichinger has a gift that few of us have. She restored this young man's life and gave him love that had been absent in his youth.

Marilynne has written a compelling account of Streetwise's breakaway from a downward spiral of homelessness. He wouldn't have made it without the compassionate intervention of the author and her husband. But this book is a testimony to the true grit of Streetwise. Inspiring on all levels.
