From the Author
The 2016 presidential campaign is one for thehistory books. And not necessarily in a good way. Donald Trump constantly seems to be saying things that even yourdrunk uncle wouldn't utter at Thanksgiving dinner. Hillary Clinton has trust issues that leave many voters feelingmore comfortable dealing with a Nigerian prince. This is an election that istruly one table flip away from becoming a reality show, and one of the few waysto find something positive in it all is to read The Can't-idates: Running For PresidentWhen Nobody Knows Your Name.

Former People Magazine and NewYork Times journalist Craig Tomashoff was as unhappy as therest of the country with our mainstream choices for president. Eager to findsomeone new worth voting for, he traveled 10,000 miles across America to meetsome of the more than1800 average citizens who have filed their paperwork torun for the highest office in the land. The Can't-idates is a very personal chronicleof that journey. It was a trip that renewed his faith in people and politics,as well as becoming a book that captures the humor and heart of an America thatthe press and the politicians have forgotten about.

By Amazon Customer
The Can't-idates isn't only a rare look at the regular people who decide to run for president (WHY some of these people choose to run for president is a completely bizarre and fascinating tale on its own), but it's also a heart-warming look at a dad trying to convince his college-bound son that the American dream still exists... I loved the parts where Tomashoff made himself vulnerable and expressed his doubts -- is he a good father? Can he be a good role model? Is he making the right decisions? This personal struggle -- interwoven with this fascinating tour through the underbelly of American politics as impossible candidates dream to become President of the United States -- is raw and honest and worth a read. Plus, you'll get a look at American politics like you've never seen it before... If you're interested in American politics, it's a must read. If you're a parent struggling with your own dreams, you'll love Tomashoff's honesty.

This book is timeless, and wonderful !
By GQ
I am a die-hard political junkie and, living in CA, recall the many "oddballs" who filed as candidates during the governor recall election that resulted in Governor Schwarzenegger. So I dove in Craig's book with guarded expectations. However this book is a wonderful, nuanced, read that I would recommend to everyone, even if you aren't so much into politics- you don't want to put it down and you walk away feeling enriched. It was wonderful to learn of the motivations and life struggles (and, yes, peculiarities) of the various can't-idates, as well as to get a fascinating "behind-the-scenes" feel for the lives of interesting, earnest people totally outside of my own orbit. And Craig ties in his own personal life and family experiences to those of the can't-idates in a way that adds tremendous poignancy. It is all wrapped up so well in the epilogue. This book is timeless, and will be worth a read well beyond the time that we go to the November polls seeing none of these interesting people on the ballot.

A great read to add to your list as election year ...
By Karl R. Neice
A great read to add to your list as election year begins to sharpen your cynicism and your desire to read something unconventional but real. “The Can’t-didates” is a courageous and exhilarating study of 15 everyday Americans who struggle with their lives but seem to thrive on the dream of running for president and actually file to do so. Their stories are made three-dimensional by the author’s own struggle to balance the seemingly meaningless task of covering celebrities in a previous life and now covering the ambitiously hopelessly optimistic outlook of the subject “Can’t-didates, while showing he’s a meaningful writer who weaves ironies effortlessly, offers sometimes painful personal allegories, and owns up to his own doubts at every turn. Compelling read and still reads fresh despite the blood spilled on the presidential campaign battlegrounds since he turned the book in.
