Their meeting was only the beginning. Having to escape the guards, travel by canoe in a storm, and cross miles of perilous Mexican cartel country to get to the ocean where the Saints could picked them up was their goal. Falling in love was their reward.

Interesting, but slow in places

When I started this book, it was going just the way I wanted it to. Plenty of action, some romance and a great blending of each in the plot.
Then the Saints got Miriam back in the United States and it started to PLOD. I was almost bored because, honestly, I want more action mixed with the lovemaking. And it seemed to me that was all the last third of the book was--sex-- until we hit the final climactic event. While I generally enjoyed the book, I was disappointed with the last part.

Healing Love by Maryann Jordan is the second book in the Saints Protection & Investigation series. The first book, Serial Love, is Jack's book...Jack is the creator of the private investigative business made up of various government agencies including CIA, FBI, ATF, DEA, Border Patrol, SEALS, and police. They take on cases that others can't solve or ones that some of these agencies don't have the resources or manpower for. Such is the case of the kidnapping of Miriam Delaro and if you recognize her last name, you got it, she is Jobe Delaro's younger sister...Jobe is from the Alvarez Security series and also served along side with Jack overseas.
Miriam wants to spread her wings to get away from her loving but sometimes overbearing family and since she is a nurse, she answers the call to help out victims from an earthquake in Mexico. Enter the cartel, who needs their workers and officers taken care of, and Miriam is taken along with a few other women. Her brother, Jobe, asks Jack for help and since Cam Perez has the skills from being undercover as well as his growing up years not always following the law...he's the right guy for the job. It also helps that he is Hispanic and will blend in with the people already in the cartel camps.
Cam goes undercover as a worker and fakes being wounded so he can get near Miriam and the other nurses. With one look, it is no longer simply a mission...it becomes personal. A lot of things happen, which you will have to read about, and they end up escaping. Along the way, the two start falling in love with each other and I was rooting for them all the way. I have to tell you that I love both of these characters. Miriam is so strong in the face of adversity and Cam, well, he's just yummy. He has been added to my ranks of BBF's.:)
When they get home, they have to face family disapproval of their relationship, the wondering of whether their feelings was all due to adrenaline, etc. Not to mention, Miriam is out of the clear...someone is still looking for her.
In my opinion, this is Maryann Jordan's best book yet and I have read every book she has written that I know of. I almost felt like when I watch the Olympics and you see a runner or swimmer hit their stride and everyone fades into the background. That's how great Maryann's writing is in this book. You definitely need to one-click as soon as possible. If you haven't read Jack's book, start with it, and then move on to Healing Love. Thanks so much for sharing Cam and Miriam with us, Maryann Jordan...I look forward to the next installment in this series. Congratulations on 5 huge stars...I would give you 10 if I could!

Miriam Delaro a nurse wanted to help those in need. So when the chance came to help earthquake victims in Mexico she jumped at the chance. Being kidnapped by a cartel wasn't in her plans. She knew when her brother Jobe found out what happened to her, he wouldn't let nothing stand in the way of rescuing her. Cam Perez was headed down the wrong path in his life. When a priest sets him on the right road, Cam straightens his life out and is now working for Jack at Saints Protection and Investigations. When Jobe goes to Jack for help, Jack has the perfect person. Cam has experience with undercover work and can speak the language. What Cam didn't plan on was the attraction he would feel for Miriam as they were trying to escape from Mexico.
This was definitely a sit on the edge of your seat suspense novel. The romance almost takes a back seat to it. Cam and Miriam were both strong characters and the sparks between them flew from the first meeting. Being on the run leaves no time for romance. Yet it does leave time to get to know one another and build from there. I think between the suspense and the slow build romance makes the book all that much better. Granted it is only over a couple of days but it fits in perfectly. This is the second book in the Saints Protection and Investigations series but can be read as a standalone. I received an authors copy in exchange for an honest review.
