The Pi Yen Lu text here is translated from Chinese to Korean. It comes from a publicly available text.The book is called in English, The Blue Cliff Record, and its English translation is over 30 years old at least. This book is comprised of 100 koans with sly comments and deep commentary reminiscent of a midrash.It is thought the original was collected and first printed over 800 years ago. Bokwang Seon has collected the Korean text and placed it into this convenient volume. Not all places you might choose to read this text have wifi or even cell phone connectivity, and it is useful for retreat settings or quiet reading at home with a good cup of tea completely unplugged.
