Si bien hay quienes sostienen que la característica definitoria de Nietzsche no es tanto la temática que trataba sino el estilo y la sutileza con que lo hacía, fue un autor que introdujo, como ningún otro, una cosmovisión que ha reorganizado el pensamiento del siglo XX, en autores tales como Martin Heidegger, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze, Gianni Vattimo o Michel Onfray, entre otros. Nietzsche recibió amplio reconocimiento durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX como una figura significativa en la filosofía moderna. Su influencia fue particularmente notoria en los filósofos existencialistas, críticos, fenomenológicos, postestructuralistas y posmodernos, y en la sociología de Max Weber.
