This book is comprised of edited and updated editorials published in a Midwest Bible Belt newspaper written over a period of twenty years by one who has a passion for social justice. There is a real edge to the essays, and conservative readers may feel their ire rising at the uncompromising views of the author, while at the same time acknowledging what he sees as injustice in the American social system. The author, pastor of a small progressive Christian church, has maintained a lonely outpost in an unrelenting struggle to bend the structures of society toward the greater good for all citizens of the state. The book is not motivated by traditional religious values. It is a book about society's faults from a moral perspective and about what it means to be truly human. Being Christian is more about what one does than about what one believes. A remarkable vision of Christian ideals for the twenty-first century.

This book challenges us to dig deeper!

Rev. Dr. Ray asks questions that cause us to think more deeply about the many challenges facing our country today. He gets right to the heart of matters and possesses the ability to succinctly evaluate conflicts and pose solutions. His education and life experience gives him a perspective that I can truly appreciate and respect. His ability to communicate his ideas is both eloquent and often humorous, make this an enjoyable read. I just wish I had several copies of this book to give to several of our local and state leaders, particularly those who loudly identify as Christian. If we are to grow, we must be thankful for those who challenge us!
