A Treasure Trove of a Book Teaching a Time-honoured Simple Path to Peace and Happiness

I am so pleaded to be writing the first review for this awesome book. It needs a review. Makes me wonder how come it hasn't had one. There must be a process for that. Well, I predict that this book will take off like a slow burning wick, then "boom!", the word will get around that this is such a great book.

I wanted to buy this book ever since I "accidentally" encountered the author's "The Little book of Mindfulness" and found I was very appreciative of it. Finally, after weeks & weeks of debating where I should allocate my money (it isn't cheap), I realized I'd have no peace from a nagging "Buy it" voice in mt head until I did. I really wanted this book despite my nagging doubts about buying an expensive book by a relative unknown in a sky of shining stars, a fair few of whom I have read.

So? I like it very much.

This book is written deceptively simply but covers so much of vital importance to people who want to, as the book's sub title says, know "How to find peace and happiness in the chaos of everyday life." That is a mammoth goal and the author, Matt Valentine, has done a really great job at writing what really can offer a wide range of readers substantial and practical assistance towards reaching it. Even an intelligent school child can read it and there is no real reason why it should be written at a higher level of literacy. This is a "how to" book, like a recipe book. And why not? But the recipes aren't the author's. He has carefully distilled out the essence of traditional Zen practice for our effective use.

I would have preferred a somewhat smaller font but that isn't crucial. What is in the book is what really matters. The reader has to apply it of course. You have to cook the cake in order to see how good the recipe for it was. And meditation really does work you know.

A cheaper price would possibly sell more copies.

Here's hoping word of mouth steadily makes more & more people aware of this wonderful book.
