For Advanced TESOL study only

If you're looking for a general book about TESOL, or how to teach English then this book is probably not for you. In my opinion, this book was written for Master's and Doctoral students in one of the TESOL or lInguistics fields, who need to study or teach about how to analyze written discourse. However, with all that said, it is a fine book, but dense.

90's bible for discourse analysts

at one time or another, i've cited or used every chapter in this collected edition. the fact that it's still a valuable reference today (published in 1994) is underlined by my feeling the need to have a digital copy with me when i was travelling. of course i have the hard copy at home on the shelves, brought with me when i moved back to australia from birmingham... yes, where i did my phd - i need to disclose this due to assumed bias.. and of course, all of the contributors are in some way associated with the university of birmingham in the UK... in any case, all of the chapters are relevant to anyone studying written discourse analysis. despite its age, the chapters form, if nothing else, a great starting point for further explorations in using a linguistic approach to analysing written texts from a number of different angles.
